Clooney in Space

1:52 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Director, Alfonso Cuarón’s follow-up to Children of Men has been in production for years and has gone through several cast changes. Gravity originally called for Robert Downey Jr. and Angelina Jolie. The director eventually settled on George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. But honestly, it would really matter who’s in those spacesuits. This movie looks awesome. Apparently, the opening is a 20-minute long, uncut shot. It’s probably just Clooney grinning at the camera. That’s how you put butts in the seats!

Fallon Replaces Leno

6:41 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

The rumours have been swirling about who would take over The Tonight Show since…well, pretty much since Leno kicked Conan to the curb. Yesterday, NBC ended the insanity by officially announcing that Jimmy Fallon would take over hosting duties on the legendary late night show, starting in February, 2014. Fallon has built Late Night with Jimmy Fallon into one of the most relevant, entertaining late night shows on TV (along with The Daily Show) and has definitely earned the chance to take over for an aging and increasingly unfunny Leno.

Check out his official (and emotional) announcement and some of Jimmy’s greatest hits!

Nemo’s Sequel Announced

6:22 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Besides the Toy Story franchise, Finding Nemo is probably Pixar’s most-loved movie. 10 years later, they just made everyone’s day by announcing the sequel, Finding Dory.

Ellen Degeneres (the voice of “Dory”) made the official announcement on her Instagram account by posting this picture:

She also talked about it on her talk show…for the last 7 years…

According to a Disney press release, Finding Dory takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.

Unfortunately, since animation takes a while, we won’t see Finding Dory until Nov. 25th, 2015!

Bieber Hosts SNL

9:33 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Following in the footsteps of Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, your boyfriend Justin Bieber will pull double-duty by hosting AND performing on Saturday Night Live on February 9th. A Bieber-filled SNL is good news for the guy who’s had a bad news streak in 2013, so far. Besides the continuous break-up rumors with Selena Gomez, the Beibs was photographed smoking marijuana on New Year’s Eve.

And to all the doubters, here’s Biebs holding his own with The Lonely Island. Looks like he can handle his comedy.

This Is The End – Trailer

9:56 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

WARNING: This trailer is super-NSFW (and hilarious).

This Is The End looks like The Expendables of comedy. An all-star cast lead by James Franco wakes up to the apocalypse. That’s all the info we have and that’s all you really need to know. Look at this cast! Laughs are guaranteed. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until summer to see this one.

This Is The End hits theatres on June 14th, 2013.

Vinny’s Getting His Own Show

4:07 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino is the latest cast member to land his own spin-off show on MTV. Vinny will host “The Show with Vinny” (yes, that’s what it’s called). It will be a hybrid talk show/reality show that MTV says will “shatter the typical talk show format”. Vinny will welcome celebrity guests into his family’s home in Staten Island, NY where they will talk with him, his mama Paula and Uncle Nino. Also, pounds upon pounds of pasta will be consumed. Personally, I can’t wait to watch Uncle Nino share a big bowl of linguine with Tom Hanks.

“The Show With Vinny” premieres early 2013.

Brad vs. a Billion Zombies

3:30 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Next summer, Brad Pitt stars in the mega-blockbuster zombie flick, World War Z (“World War Zed” in Canada?) and the epic trailer is here. The movie is based on the hit book by Max Brooks and centers around a U.N. employee travelling around the world in a race to beat the rapidly-spreading zombie pandemic. Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and written by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), this movie’s got some serious talent behind it.

World War Z hits theatres June 21st, 2013.

Die Hard…Again.

Don’t worry, gentlemen. Bruce Willis just made your Valentine’s Day plans for you. The fifth installment in the Die Hard series hits theatres on February 14th! Iron Man Gets Dark

11:34 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

The first full-length trailer for Iron Man 3 has finally hit the web and it looks pretty amazing. The storyline seems to definitely be taking a dark turn, as Tony Stark is haunted by nightmares of “what happened in New York” (a reference to The Avengers). Also, who’s that in the Iron Man suit with Tony Stark and Pepper??! This looks like a great way to kick off the 2013 summer blockbuster season.

Iron Man 3 hits theatres April 24th, 2013.

Gosling’s Gangster Squad

6:52 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Your boyfriend, Ryan Gosling is losing the soft, rom-com attitude and getting tough in the new flick, Gangster Squad. Sean Penn stars as Mickey Cohen, the ruthless Brooklyn-born mob boss trying to expand his territory into Los Angeles. With the LAPD powerless to stop the mob, Josh Brolin and Gosling form a band of outsider cops that operate outside of the law. And blow stuff up real good. Also, Jay-Z does the soundtrack to yet another period piece. At this rate, our kids are going to think Jigga was a rapper in the 1950s.

Gangster Squad hits theatres January 11th, 2013.

Hitchcock – Trailer

6:12 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Here comes the next major player in this year’s Oscar race, Hitchcock. Alfred Hitchcock directed some of the creepiest films of all time and now, we get to see the man behind the madness. Hitchcock tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of his most infamous film, Psycho.

Hitchcock hits theatres on November 23, 2012.

Titanic Gets Mythbusted

12:42 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Since it’s release in 1997, there’s been one question that’s been bothering superfans of Titanic…why didn’t Rose let Jack climb on that freaking door?! Rose floated there while Jack had to sit in the frigid waters of the north Atlantic until he drowned and we all cried. Finally, in 2012, we have the technology and crazy guys with funny moustaches to put the theory to the test.

“Could Jack have survived on the floating door with Rose?”

Even director James Cameron got involved. Myth (sorta) BUSTED!

The Lone Ranger – Trailer

5:56 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

After years of delays, Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski present their follow-up to the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Lone Ranger. The movie is based on the popular 50′s TV show, but your grandmother probably won’t be too interested in this one. The cinematography in this definitely looks 2012-ish. Also, Johnny Depp has a bird on his head. So, there’s that.

The Lone Ranger hits theatres June 28th, 2013.

The Tech Factor?

6:34 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

In weird TV news, Black Eyed Peas frontman, Will I. Am recently announced that he is teaming up with Simon Cowell to produce a reality-competition show to find the next big idea in tech. The show will shoot in the UK with the hopes of discovering the next Mark Zuckerberg. Details are still sparse, but it sounds like the show would be a combination of The X Factor and Dragons Den, with bright, young, tech-minded people pitching their ideas to a singing competition judge and the guy who wrote “Let’s Get Retarded”. It’s still better than being judged by Donald Trump, though.

Maybe they can ride a wave of interest in start-ups, from shows like Dragons Den, Shark Tank and Bravo’s upcoming, Silicon Valley Start-Ups. More info here.

The Long-Awaited Trailer for 42

5:49 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

The long-awaited biopic, 65 years in the making, finally comes to theatres next year. 42 is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play major league baseball. The trailer definitely looks epic, but the critics out there seem to have an issue with the Jay-Z soundtrack being not “period-specific”. What do you guys think?

42 hits theaters on April 12th, 2013.

Cloud Atlas’s HUGE Trailer

5:07 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

In 2004, author David Mitchell released his mind-bending, time-tripping novel Cloud Atlas. The book is considered one of the best of the decade and, according to most critics, “un-filmable”. The Wachowskis (The Matrix series, Speed Racer) are out to prove them wrong. Teaming up with director Tom Twyker (Run, Lola, Run), they are out to re-define the term “epic” with a cinematic experience that spans continents and millennia. The 5-minute long trailer is one of the best previews…maybe ever. Hopefully, the film lives up to its huge expectations.

Cloud Atlas premieres at TIFF this Saturday, September 8th and is in theatres everywhere on October 26th.

Holograms Coming to The X Factor

3:22 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

After the massively positive reception and buzz that followed 2Pac’s hologram appearance at this year’s Coachella, you just knew you were going to see more holo-performances in the future by artists who are no longer with us. Celine Dion got on the trend, right away by singing a duet with a hologram of Stevie Wonder (who is still alive, by the way) in her Vegas show. Next up? The X Factor. An insider claims that those who work on the show are still looking for ways in which it can improve and that its boss, Richard Holloway, was inspired by Dion’s performance.

“The X Factor has to keep getting better so they are looking at holograms as a way of creating a splash,” they said, before adding:
“Imagine Elvis or Amy Winehouse at the grand final. It would be incredible TV and an amazing experience for contestants. The technology’s there and has been used on several big stages. The X Factor final is perfect for something like this.”

I hope these kids are prepared to get upstaged by a projection.

The End of The Office

3:23 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

After 9 seasons (6 really good ones), The Office will finally air its final episode this coming spring. Show-runner, Greg Daniels has confirmed that this coming season will be the last. Daniels, whose return to the series he described as “the last chance to make an artistic ending for the show”, made the announcement on a conference call, during which he also let out a few details on the upcoming season that could be considered spoilers. Perhaps most intriguing of all, the audience is finally “going to see who’s behind the documentary”.

Check out this video of some of The Office’s best moments! It’s pretty long. (That’s what she said!)

Arnold Returns To The Big Screen

5:23 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Fresh off his return to the big screen in The Expendables 2, next year Ahhhhnold makes his first staring appearance since 2003′s Terminator 3. In the upcoming flick, The Last Stand, Arnold plays the aging sheriff of a small, Texas border town that has been taken over by a Mexican drug cartel. And with some help from Forrest Whitaker and Johnny Knoxville…well, you know what happens next.

The Last Stand hits theatres January 17th, 2012.

The Knocked Up “Sequel”

5:53 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

Producer/Director Judd Apatow is behind some of the most hilarious movies of the past decade (The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, Knocked Up) and this Christmas, his next flick This Is 40 hits theatres to keep the funny comin’. It’s being sold as “The Sort-Of Sequel to Knocked Up“. Probably because Seth Rogen’s done too much P90X and they can’t find a way to explain his massive weight loss since the last movie. Thankfully, they replaced him with Megan Fox.
Gentleman, set your video players to “loop”.

This is 40 hits theatres December 21st, 2012.

UPDATED (Aug. 4th): check out the full theatrical trailer!

This weekend saw the release of one of the most anticipated trailers of the year, the next 007 movie Skyfall. Fans are anxious to see if Skyfall restores 007 to his Casino Royale greatness and erases all memory of the suck-fest that was Quantum of Solace.
Looking good so far…

Ferrell VS Galifianakis

1:26 pm in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

On August 10th, two of the biggest names in comedy go head-to-head as political rivals in The Campaign. Will Ferrell is Cam Brady, a no-nonsense Republican who kind of seems like George Dub-ya’s half brother. Zach Galifianakis plays Marty Huggins, the head of the local tourism center and cuddly, naive hippy-type Democrat. With these two guys, I’d bet at least half of this movie was ad-libbed on the spot. Check out their “official” campaign ads below!

The Campaign hits theatres August 10th, 2012.

The Walking Dead – Season 3

4:30 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

At San Diego Comic-Con, last week, the folks at AMC gave the die hard fans what they were waiting for months to see…the first preview of season 3 of The Walking Dead. Season 3 features the gang of survivors finding a new home in an abandoned (or so they think) prison. By the looks of this 4 minute trailer, this season’s going to be the best yet. Although unfortunately, it looks like Laurie’s still alive. Boooooo…

The Walking Dead, Season 3 debuts on October 14th, 2012.

Seinfeld Returns With Web Series

4:15 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

On July 19th, Jerry Seinfeld debuts his new web series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. What’s it about? Well, see these comedians get together, then they get into a car, then…spoiler alert…they get coffee. This might sound overly simple and boring, but Seinfeld chatting with fellow funny people like Ricky Gervais, Larry David, Colin Farrell and Alec Baldwin has got to be good. It worked wonders on HBO’s Talking Funny. If anything, this’ll be a great opportunity for Seinfeld to show off his insane car collection.

Debuts online Thursday, July 19th at 9pm comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com

Living Off Craigslist For A Month

4:28 am in Movies & TV by Jason Baskey

In 2012, is it possible to live just on favours from your fellow human beings? Or are we way too busy tweeting what we had for lunch today to offer any of it to someone in need? Joseph Garner decided to find out. From transportation to food, from shelter to companionship, Joe would depend on the generosity of people who had never seen him and whose sole connection to him was the giant virtual swap meet known as Craigslist. The results look amazing.

Craigslist Joe will be in theatres AND available on iTunes on August 2nd.
